Suyog Shigmotsav Mandal Clinches ‘Romtamel Champions 2026’ Title

Panaji: Suyog Shigmotsav Mandal, Adpai-Agapur, has emerged as the “Romtamel Champions 2026” at the Shigmotsav, capping an exceptional season marked by consistent performances across the State.

The mandal participated in a record 18 Romtamel competitions across Goa this year — the highest by any group — and, on some occasions, competed in two events on the same day. It secured nine first prizes at Cortalim, Calangute, Curchorem, Mapusa, Sankhali, Porvorim, Cuncolim, Pernem and Ponda. In addition, it won six second prizes at Panaji, Margao, Bicholim, Vasco, Mandrem and Sanguem, along with a third prize at Dharbandora and fourth-place finishes at Shiroda and Valpoi.

With a total tally of nine first, six second, one third and two fourth prizes, the mandal’s overall performance earned it the championship title. Over the past 11 years, the group has won the Romtamel championship seven times, including in 2017, 2018, 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

The mandal’s signature presentation, “Shigmyachi Jat”, has been widely appreciated for its creativity and visual appeal, influencing other groups to adopt similar elements in their performances.

Despite challenges arising from the repeated selection of judges across multiple competitions — even after the Tourism Department had suggested a broader panel — the mandal maintained its consistency throughout the season.

The success has been attributed to the guidance of its master, Vignesh Govind Naik, and the collective effort of its members. The mandal dedicated its achievement to its late members, Brahmanand (Bhai) Naik and Saish Adpaikar.

Members of the mandal, artists and organisers have been congratulated for their dedication and teamwork in achieving this milestone.
